A familiar sight in early autumn, the young fruiting body is white and fibrillose. With age, the fribrils curl to give the shaggy appearance. In time, the gills and lower part of the cap turn black and deliquesce. Stipe smooth with a loose ring. Grows in open areas on a soil substrate
